The first Commercial Club was organized in 1911. They did things in those days, rolled up their sleeves and went out and worked on the road. I can recall one instance when the farmers made a complaint about a piece of corduroy road that was so rough they could hardly drive over it, so the club went out, tore up the corduroy and leveled up the road.

"Upon motion it was ordered that the Recorder have the authority to issue permits to those desiring electrict [sic.] current after the hour of midnight, with the provision all charges for said extra current be born by those desiring permits." "The matter of the Town collecting the road tax within the Corporate limits was taken up, and upon motion F.J.Epler was instructed to consult an attorney as to the legality of the charter governing the matter, and to report at earliest convenience."

| Page 198 June 2, 1911. Fred, Frank and C.H. receive "the license" by unanimous Yes vote. "After som deliberation by the Council the Recorder was instructed to purchase a new hose-cart, also to investigate the probable cost of a set of ladders for the fire department. "It was also ordered upon motion for the recorder to proceed to have the Town Building painted inside and out, also to tear down the old fence around lot and burn same, as well as to have new walk bult along town property on Main Street. "It was also ordered upon motion by the Council that an eight inch sewer be laind [sic.] where the present six inch water draind runs through town. Said sewer commencing at intersection of Pine Street and following the old water drain and emptying into Cedar Creek where said creek runs through H.Dittmans property. It was also decided to build a septic tank sufficiently large to handle the sewerage from about 200 people, said tank to be located on the sewer line where same crosses Park Street. The Recorder was instructed to secure a suitable man to take charge of the work, also to order all necessary sewer pipe and other material required to complete the entire job."
| Page 199 (Verbatum:) [NOTE: A catastrophic fire strikes Block One on July 3,1911.] July 7th, 1911. The Common Council of the Town of Sherwood met in regular monthly session and was convened by Prest. J.C.Smock. Roll call showed all in attendance. Minutes of Last regular meeting read and approved as read. The following bills were presented, audited by the council and warrants ordered drawn on the Treas. for the several amounts: Pearl White, $10.00 account attending and taking Geo. Scott to Hillsboro during his disability. A.G.Long, $80.00, account hose cart purchased for the city. F.J.Epler, $388.60 account sewer pipe for the city. Upon motion the recorder was instructed to issue duplicate license to the two saloon keepers having lost original license by fire. Under the head of Ordinance, ordinance No.59, defining and classifying buildings within restricted fire limits was taken up and read for the first time. There appearing to be an emergency existing and a clause affixed to said ordinance, the council moved that the ordinance be taken up and read for the second and third time, which upon final reading same was adopted by the council as follows: Roellick, Yes, Fred Colfelt, Yes, G.Hanke Yes and A.W.Hall Yes, Same then being forthwith prsented to the President and duly signed and aproved by him.
