Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood met in regular session Roll Call showed Members present to be Smock, Hogan, Leo, Young and Knight. There being no quorum present Council Adjourned to meet on Tuesday Evening, January 6th, 1897.

President Smock stated that there was a Mistake made in the time of this Meeting and that it Conflicted with Business that he and the Recorder had on hand for the Evening and on Motion of Iler Council Adjourned to meet Wednesday Eve. Jany.6,1897.

Persuant to Adjournment of Jany. 2nd and January 5th comon council met in regular Session Roll Call showed all members present. Minutes of Adjourned meetings Read for corrections.

Ordinance #32 was read for the reading. This ordinance was for the purpose of Prohibiting Horses and Mules from roaming at Large and on Motion to Adopt was Voted on as follows. S.Hogan Yes, H. Eyman Yes, H.D.Leo Blank, J.C.Iler No, J.C.Smock No. Motion to Adopt was Lost.

On Motion of Iler Second by Eyman to Repeal Section 13 of Ordinance 25 the vote stood as follows. Yes Hogan, Yes Eyman, Yes Iler, Yes Leo.

The motion carried and Section 13 of Ordinance 25 was thereby Repealed.

The following Bills wer audited and ordered paid.

Persuant to Adjournment of January 6 Comon Council met in regular Yearly session.

Members All Present at Roll Call. Minutes of Last three Meetings Red and Approved.

Aplication of John Gildner for a retaile Liquor Licens to sell spirituous Malt and Vineous Liquors in less quantities than one gallon for a period of three (3) Months begining January 14th,1897 and Ending April 14th 1897 was read before the Council also His Bond with John P. Mohrman and Charles Wilson as surities was read and on Motion to grant the Licens as asked for in the Petition the Vote Stood as follows. S.Hogan Blank, J.C.Iler Yes, H.D.Leo Yes, H.H.Eyman Yes. The Motion Carried and the Licens wer ordered Issued.

Report of the Treasurer and Town Recorder being Read and Examined by the Council wer accepted and adopted. Treasurer's Report showed Balance Cash on hand to be One hundred and Two and 26/100 ($102.26 Dollars) in notes papers & Telephone Stock $163.85.

Upon Vote of the Last Election being canvased the following named Persons wer declared Elected.

The Old Council Vacated ther seats and the new President and Council Wer sworn in and the new Council was formed.

Bond of Wm. Tipton Town Recorder Elect was Read and Acepted and Mr. Tipton was Sworn in and duely Installed and the New Administration took up th Reins of government wher the Old Council left off.

Bond of Town Treasurer [some words are erased here and overwritten in Tipton's script] -elect was read and accepted.

Mr. J.C.Smock as Town Treasurer was then duly sworn in.

Bond of Town Marshal Elect Geo.Knight was next considered and accepted and Mr. Knight was then duly sworn in.

Moved and carried that the Recorder be instructed to draw warrants for the amt. of $1.50 each for B. Janeway, P.T.Meeks, J.V.Hall, judges. J.E.Young H.L.Smock, clerks, and E.G.Hagey, Marshal, for services as such in recent town election Jan.4th,1897.

Moved and carried that bill of J.E.Morback--$11.58 for services as Town Treasurer for qr. ending Jan.11th,1897 be allowed and that the Recorder be instructed to draw

warrant for same.

Short speeches were made by several of the new officers also by several of the retiring officers among which was an interesting and instructive message by Mr. J.C.Smock.

No more business upon motion the meeting adjourned until next regular meeting or till call of Pres. of Council.

Common Council met in regular session. Members all present except councilman H.L.Smock and Marshal George Knight.

Minutes of Jan.11th,1897 read and approved.

Request of F.C.Varner read to council and it was ordered to be laid over till some future meeting. This request was regarding street crossing on 2nd Street.

Motion carried that J.C.Smock's bill be allowed, $1.70 " H.C.Plummer's " of 25c " .25 " W.W.Tipton's " be allowed. $5.00 " fees of witnesses in the case of the Town v.s. Woida be allowed $12.00

Motion carried that fees of Jury in above named case be allowed. $6.00

Motion made and seconded that Town Marshal's

bill of Marshal's fees in above named case $6.50 and .50 cts for serving notice on Fred [Flint?] be allowed, except the 50cts for serving notice. Carried.

Consideration of the 50cts was put off to some future meeting.

Motion that Frank Gildner's bill for furnishing supper to the Jury in same case be allowed carried. Amt. of Bill, $1 20/100.

Motion was made by J.E.Morback and seconded by H.D.Leo that that part of sec. 4 of Ord. No. 7 relating to windows in saloons be repealed. J.E.Morback-Yes, P.T.Meeks-Yes, H.D.Leo-Yes. Carried by full vote of council.

No further business motion to adjourn till next regular meeting subject to order of Pres. Carried.

Sherwood Oregon March 5th, 1897.

Council met in regular session with Pres. Iler in chair. Town officers all answered to roll call except H.L.Smock councilman and Geo. Knight, Town Marshal. Minutes of last meeting read and approved. Under head of communications the resignation of H.L.Smock was accepted.

Motion carried that H.D.Leo's request to build a side-walk in front of his property on R.R.St. according to provisions of Ord.No.10.

Request of E.G.Hagey in regard to grading the St. in front of his residence on Washington St was next considered and upon motion it was granted.

Bill of M.F.[Flint?] for 50cts Allowed and ordered paid.

The vacancy caused by the resignatiuuon of H.L.Smock as councilman was next considered. Nominations to fill such vacancy were made as follows. H.D.Leo named E.G.Hagey. P.T.Meeks named J.M.Haynes. Result of ballot: E.G.Hagey one vote, J.M.Haynes two votes and J.M.Haynes declared duly elected. Mr. Haynes was duly sworn in and took his seat as a member of the Common Council.

The matter of Mr. Woida in regard to a notice and a receipt for ($100) One hundred Dollars from Town Treasurer came up for consideration. Motion carried that it be laid over until proper or Legal Application be made.

After some discussion in regard to the condition of the Town property a motion was was made and carried that the Chair appoint a Com. of two members of the council to carry without pay the Town pump into the Town woodshed inside of one wk. Chair appointed H.D.Leo and P.T.Meeks upon said Com.

An interesting discussion in regard to new sidewalk alongside the Mormon [Mohrmann] property on Wash. St. next followed and the suggestion was made that the council look further into the matter before any["thing" crossed out] order be issued.

Motion carried that the Recorder be instructed to notify J.E.Young of the nonpayment of a Note for $25 drawn in favor of the Town for 30 days and dated July 19th,1895.

Motion carried That the Recorder be instructed to notify [Ora?] Johnson in regard to unpaid int. on a note of $75.00 drawn in favor of Town dated Aug.10th,1895. Int.$5.15.

Motion carried that the council adjourn until next regular meeting subject to the call of the Pres.

Persuant to a call by Pres.Iler for special meeting council met Roll call showed a quorum. Minutes of Mar.5th,1897 read and approved.

Com. on pump reported and report accepted and Resignation of Marshal Knight considered. Motion carried that it be accepted.

Nominations to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Mr. Knight being in order Mr.F.[Flint?] and Miles Haynes were named. Haynes rec'd two votes and Flint one vote as result of ballot. The resignation of J.E.Morback as councilman was next considered and accepted by motion. Nominations to fill this vacancy declared in order, [Vohney?] Hall and Grover Hagey were nominated for the place made vacant.

Pres. Iler declared nominations in order again. Mr.Hall withdrew his name and Benj.Janeway was nominated.

Motion carried that the bond of M.J.Haynes be accepted after which he was sworn in and duly installed Town Marshal.

Nonimations to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. J.E.Morback was declared in order.

Common Council for the Town of Sherwood Oregon met in regular session on above date. Roll call was responded to by Pres. J.C.Iler, Councilman P.T.Meeks, and J.M.Haynes, Recorder W.M.Tipton, and Marshal M.J.Haynes.

After some discussion upon motion by Mr. Meeks and Seconded by Mr. Haynes the meeting adjourned.

Common Council for the Town of Sherwood Oreg. met in regular session on above date. In the absence of Pres.Iler meeting was called to order by the Recorder. Roll Call was responded to by Benj.Janeway, P.T.Meeks, J.M.Haynes, Councilmen, W.M.Tipton Recorder & M.J.Haynes Marshal.

Minutes of March 8th,1897, March 9th,1897 & Apr.2nd,1897 read.

Motion made to correct that part of those minutes relating to the ballots cast for E.G.Hagey for councilman, Corrected to read "1 vote" instead of "2 votes". Motion carried and minutes approved as corrected.

Pres.J.C.Iler having moved outside the town limits, with the evident intention of staying out, the council deemed it nothing more than proper that the vacancy caused by said removal should be filld. Motion carried that the council proceed to elect a Pres. to fill vacancy.

Nominations were next declared in order. H.H.Eyman being the only one nominated the council proceeded to ballot.

Result of the First ballot. B. Janeway "Yes", P.T.Meeks "Yes", J.M.Haynes "Yes".

Mr.Eyman was declared elected, & being present was duly sworn in and took his seat as President of the Common Council of Sherwood.

Motion carried that the application of John Gildner for Liquor License be rejected.

Motion carried that a bill of $10.00 be persented to the Co.Court for damage done to Town Jail by a prisoner in custody of the Constable for West Cedar Creek Precinct. Damages done on the night of May6th or 7th,1897.

Motion carried that a charge of 50 cts per day be made for the use of the Town Hall by the J.P.

Moved and seconded that the Town Marshal be instructd to make a door to woodhouse for the easy passage of the Town Pump, also to make a reel for the hose belonging to pump Motion carried.

Common Council for the Town of Sherwood met in regular session on above date.

Roll call showed Pres. Eyman, Councilmen J.M.Haynes, Benj. Janeway and P.T.Meeks, Recordr Tipton and Marshal Haynes present.

Minutes of the last meeting read and approved, Mr. J.C.Smock being present and stating that he had the written opinion of S.B.Houston regarding the legality of the late proceedings of the Town Council, charges for same $5.00. Upon motion it was decided to have the benefit of this opinion.

Upon Motion the bill of M.J.Haynes for $7.00 was allowed.

Pres. Eyman called a meeting for the Common Council on above date. Roll call was answered by Pres. Eyman Councilman Janeway Haynes, Meeks Recorder Tipton and Marshal Haynes. Minutes of June 11th read and approved.

Motion carried that Chas. Croissant be appointed Chief of the newly organized Fire Department.

Motion carried that Mr. Croissant be allowed to purchase 30 ft. of 1 in. rope and one lantern for the use of the Fire Co. and present his bill to the council.

Motion carried that the chief of the Fire Deptmit. be allowed to have full control of the Town Pump Hose & Hose cart and all appurtenances necessary for the use of that Diptmit. in the extinguishing of fires.

Withdrawal of W.A.Pulley as one of M.J.Hayne's bondsmen was next considered but no definite action taken.

Motion carried that ["H.D.Leo" crossed out] the Recorder be instructed to correspond with H.D.Leo in regard to his non attendance of the meetings of the council to ascertain whether he intended to resign his office as Councilman for the Town of Sherwood.

Upon motion the meeting adjourned to Fri. evning June 25th,1897.

Sherwood Oregon June 26th, 1897.

In accordance with a call by Pres. on above date the following officers answered to roll call. Pres. Eyman, Councilmen Janeway, Meeks and Haynes and Recorder Tipton.

Motion carried that M.J.Haynes' resignation as Town Marshal be accepted. Nominations to fill such vacancy was declared in order, and only J.V.Hall's name was proposed. First Ballott resulted as follows:

B.Janeway "Yes" P.T.Meeks, "Yes" J.M.Haynes "Yes" Mr. Hall was declared elected and he being present gave his bond with E.G.Hagey & J.C.Smock as surities. Motion carried that the bond be accepted. Mr. Hall was then duly sworn as Town Marshal.

M.J.Haynes had presented a bill for $7.65 but upon motion only $3.50 was allowed. This motion was duly seconded and carried.

Pres. Eyman declared vacant the office of councilman Leo. and nominations to fill Such vacancy declared in order.

E.G.Hagey and H.B.Stevenson were named for this place and the first ballott resulted as follows. Hagey 1 vote, Stevenson 2 votes.

Mr. Stevenson was declared elected councilman. After considerable wrangling, upon motion the meeting adjourned till next reg. meeting.

Common Council met in regular session on above date. Roll call responded to by Pres. Eyman, Councilmen Janeway Meeks Haynes Stevenson and Recorder Tipton. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

H.B.Stevenson having been sworn his oath of office was filed and he was duly installed as councilman.

Quarterly report of Treasurer Smock accepted. Quarterly report of Recorder Tipton accepted.

Request of Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 asking the Council to provide 1 fireman's hook, 2 poll axes, 2 lanterns, 50 ft. of 1 in. rope and 6 canvass water pails, for their use, was granted upon motion.

The following bills upon motion were allowed:

There having been no meeting on the 13th of Aug. the time set at the last meeting The common council met on above date. B.Janeway J.M.Haynes & H.B.Stevenson councilmen and Recorder Tipton responded to roll call. There being no Pres. the Recorder called the meeting to order.

Motion carried that the council elect a Pres. to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of H.H.Eyman. Nominations to fill such vacancy was declared in order and Chas. Croissant was the only name presented.

[Erasure, overwritten by "Mr."] Croissant was elected by a yea and nay vote. Janeway voting "No" Haynes & Stevenson voting "Yes." Mr. Croissant was declared elected and being present was sworn and duly installed as Pres. of The Com. council of Sherwood.

Comon Council met with Prest. Croisant in the chair. Councilmen present wer B.Janeway, J.M.Haynes & H.B.Stevenson. Council was called to order by the president['s?] Wm. M.Tipton Town Recorder haveing Resigned and Moved Out of Town the office of Recorder was declared vacant by the president and on Motion J.E.Young was appointed to fill Vacancy by the Unanimous Vote of the Council. And J.E.Young was declared duely Elected.

Presuant to Call of the president of this date Council met for the purpose pf Examining bonds of J.E.Young as Town Recorder. Members present at Roll Call wer Prest. Croisentt Councilmen Janeway Haynes & Stevensen.

House was called to order by the president, and J.E.Young Recorder Elect being present read his bond and oath of office to the Council. J.P.Mohrman being Bondsman haveing Justified in Accordance with Law and J.E.Young haveing taken the oath of Office before J.C.Smock notary public for Oregon On Motion of B.Janeway the Bond was Approved and J.E.Young was duly Instructed as Recorder of the Town of Sherwood for the Balance of the term Ending on the 2nd Monday on Jany. 1898.

On Motion Council adjourned to the next regular meeting subject to the call of the Prest.

Comon Council met in regular monthly session and was called to order by the president.

Roll Call showed the following members present Chas. Croissant prest. B.Janeway, J.M.Haynes & H.B.Stevenson, members of Council and J.E.Young Recorder. Minutes of Last three meetings read and Approved.

Under the head of Unfinished Business nominations for Town Marshal was discussed in order Mike Reisner was placed in nomination for Marshal there being no other nominations the nominations we declared closed and On Motion Mike Reisner was duely Elected Marshal to fill the Vacancy caused by the Resignation of J.V.Hall by a unanimous vote of the council Marshal Elect Reisner being present presented his Bond with J.E.Morback & H.S.Smock as surities which was Read before the council and on Motion was duely approved the Oath of Office was taken by Marshal Elect Reisner

before Recorder Young and Mike Reisner was duely Installed as Marshal for the term Ending on the second Monday of Jany. 1898.

Nomination for councilman to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of P.T.Meeks wer Declaired in order but no one being placed in nomination this order was passed over. Prest. Croisant applied for orders and on Appropriation of funds to fix House Cart and place pump on Trucks but being short of funds it was concidered best to lay the matter over to some time in the future.

There being no other Business Council Adjourned to the next regular meeting subject to call of president.

Comon Council met in regular session and was called to order by J.E.Young Town Recorder. Roll Call showed prest. Croissant Absent. Members of the Council prest. wer B.Janeway, J.M.Haynes and H.B.Stevenson Recorder J.E.Young & Marshal M.Reisner.

In the Matter of the petition of John P. Mohrman for a Liquor Licens wer B.Janeway, J.M.Hogan, H.B.Stevenson.

On motion the Recorder was Instructed to Make an order to Town Treasurer J.C.Smock to Refund to J.P.Mohrmann the One hundred Dollars deposited by him for Lisenc.

On Motion the following persons wer appointed.

On Motion it was Recommended to apoint Dec. 23rd for the Holding Caucus for the nomination of candidats Said caucus to be held at two Oclock P.M. of said Day.

Moved and second that Charles Croissant be and hereby is ordered and required to return all of the property in his Charge belonging to the fired Department to the town Lots and town Buildings and taht the same hereafter be kept on the town Lots and in the town Building. Motion carried unanimously.

There being no other Business Council adjourned to the next regular meeting.
